Today was a pretty smooth set up for the week.
First I talked about getting the SIS working for students. I'll post the instructions on the right hand side of the blog, in case students forget that timetables will not be printed off for second semester.
We did some poetry, too. I did ask if anyone was ready to go with their poeT presentations or their poeM presentations.
And so, we went right into the "showing students what they need to hand in for the course."

Tuesday, Wed and Thursday
Well, Tuesday was a "snow" day. Without any snow ... it was slippery, so we'll go with that one. The school was open, I was there, but all the students stayed home.
Wednesday I was not feeling well and I left an assignment for the students to do.
Thursday ... we finished Speak with a short quiz and then got going on a Poetry Unit.
I did ask if anyone had a poet from the List of Poets that they wanted to do.
I'll show an example tomorrow.

Monday Jan 16
Today we started the poetry Unit
we are going to do a quick unit (there are only eight days left in class ... so ... yeah it's going to be quick....)
each student will do the following:
Read two poems in class (or make arrangements with the teacher to get this done another way). (Before the end of the course on Jan 25th)
Do a poet presentation on one of the people from the List of Canadian Poets - we'll do these Jan 23rd and 24th)
Be happy, too.
I did read from Writer's Almanac, and I read Ode to Joy, both in German and English.

Friday Jan 13
Whew! I certainly messed this up.
Today we worked on the character sketches in class and put the finishing touches on our study of the novel Speak.
I gave a brief preview of the Poetry Unit, too

Thursday Jan 12
Today we finished the novel, Speak.
We got three questions from the Unit for homework: 29, 30 and 32.
Tomorrow, we'll finish the novel unofficially and get to Poetry, the last and shortest unit.
Woo!

Wednesday Jan 11
So today we set the due date for Speak part 2 as Jan 19th.
It was supposed to be Jan 17, but there is something else on at the school that day and I am trying to avoid adding pressure to my students.
We read from the novel to page 189 and got the questions under the line on this pic assigned for homework for tomorrow:
After that, I tried to give my students a chance to get caught up in English homework. Some did, some did not. Alas, it is the day back after a snow day and I warded off the question "What did we do yesterday" by having a speech about this blog.

Tuesday Jan 10

So ... yeah. It snowed today. Buses were cancelled, but we still did some learning.
We read a few pages from Speak and we did some work on the character sketches for the novel.
All was good.

Monday Jan 9
We are back!
Woooooo!
I went through the exam schedule and regulations for my homeroom this morning. There is no exam for this class, and so we don't have much to worry about.
I did, however, test my students and offer an exam review for this class. I didn't get anyone on that one, but a few did ask ... again ... if there was an exam in this class.
In any case, I outlined what we had left in the class- a week or so of Speak and then a short unit on Poetry. I did point out the due date for the Part 1 of Speak, I will be returning the ones that I did get shortly.
That is all we have, after all.
We did read together until page 170 in the novel. I did assign 13, 14 and 15 from the Unit Outline.
